Armenian Workshop
Documentary Film Project Development Workshop Yerevan, Armenia, from April to June, 2026

About the Course
One of the primary goals of the workshop is to develop the documentary film production sector in Armenia and promote co-productions with European countries. Preference will be given to emerging filmmakers or those without experience in international co-productions.
During the course, we will work intensively on script structure and the concept of your film project, as well as preparing and presenting your project package in the best possible way. Participants should be prepared to dedicate significant time to writing, developing, and filming their projects. Course days will be spread across weekends (Saturday–Sunday) from April to June, with a total of 12 days planned for classes and meetings. Some sessions will take place in Dilijan (around 4 days).

-
Only feature-length creative documentary projects will be selected for the workshop.
-
Creative documentaries are documentary films in which, beyond capturing reality, the author brings a clear approach, message, and perspective. These documentaries employ more inventive methods—from script structure to visual and sound design.
-
The workshop will be conducted in person in Yerevan and will be in Armenian (knowledge of English will be considered an advantage).

Applicants must be at least 18 years old and able to attend in person (remote participation is not available). Participants from the regions are responsible for covering their own accommodation expenses.

Sessions will be held from April to June on weekends (Saturday–Sunday), comprising 12 days of intensive work. The process will include both group and individual work. The workshop will be demanding, filled with practical assignments, film screenings, and discussions. Attendance will be monitored strictly—participants are expected to attend all sessions. Those who are absent more than 3 times may be removed from the workshop or not allowed to the final Pitching.

Incomplete applications will not be considered. The selection committee is not obligated to explain its decisions. Selected participants will be notified by email.

Application deadline is March 25, 2025
6 projects will be selected for the course. The selection results will be announced no later than April 2. Along with the acceptance notification, participants will receive a schedule of the main sessions to help them plan their time and other commitments accordingly.

At the end of the course, a pitch event (project presentation) will be held, featuring both monetary and incentive awards.

Applying for the course is free; however, participation in the workshop requires a small fee. Selected participants must pay a one-time fee of 30,000 AMD, or 12,000 AMD per month over three months (total: 36,000 AMD). Up to three participants may receive a partial or full tuition waiver—to apply, please send a separate letter to ArmDoc Armenian Documentary Association at armdocngo@gmail.com and ask for waiver. All tuition fees will go toward the mentioned prize fund.

The course has been made possible thanks to the support of several organizations and individuals. First and foremost, we are grateful to the French Embassy in Armenia, through the French Institute, and the Armenian Ministry of Education, Science, Culture, and Sports for continuously supporting this workshop. Our other major supporter is DocMonde, an organization based in France. The course is implemented in Armenia by UP NGO, in collaboration with ArmDoc Armenian Documentary Association NGO and other partners.
